HEA and HEB are H-shaped structural steel sections whose flange width is close to their section depth, providing a high moment of inertia about both axes. The HEA series offers an economical solution with a lighter web at the same depth, while the HEB series is chosen wherever maximum load capacity is required. Unrivalled in column applications, these sections are essential to multi-storey steel buildings and industrial facilities. The choice between HEA and HEB usually comes down to the balance between economy and capacity: the HEA series is roughly 20–25% lighter and therefore reduces total steel tonnage under normal floor loads, while HEB, with its thicker web and flanges at the same depth, is preferred for columns needing high axial load and fire resistance. In both series, flange width close to section depth raises buckling resistance about the weak axis and reduces the need for extra lateral restraint over column heights. We can plan pre-fabrication work such as cutting, hole drilling and end-plate welding to your project drawings.
